 Let’s say you were going on a trip in your car to a place you have never been before.  If you don’t have a map or a GPS with you in the car, you will eventually find your way to your destination.  But no doubt, this will take much longer than if you used a road map or GPS device.  A financial plan is like a GPS that is guiding you toward your goal.  It shows you where you are, and where you want to be.  It tells you how long it’s going to take to get there.  It tells you when you need to make a turn and go a different direction.  And when you get off track, it plans an alternate route to get you back on course.

 When I go to a new place in my car, having my GPS with me gives me peace of mind.  I know that it’s going help me get to where I want to go, and I don’t have to stop and ask for directions from someone who may lead me off track!
